Days 3-4, border crossing, and Gobindgarh Fort

Took taxi to the Wagah border ceremony (more on taxi ride later)

Missed the VIP area (as it was Dipavali, therefore packed out) but ended up right at the top of the purpose built half stadium which meant we got a Birds Eye view of everything rather than close up, but equally got the full atmosphere of the riotous chanting by the crowds, as well as pushing shoving squeezing sweaty sort of atmosphere!!!

On the way there and back…He is a very good driver, can tune radio, answer phone, point out restaurants, show Gary (lucky boy is in the front) pictures and videos on his phone, sing along to music, operate horn constantly, whilst weaving in and out of traffic with inches to spare!!! Because we declined his kind off of a meal at a carefully selected restaurant(!) he sulked and pulled over unannounced and sat and had a meal for 20mins by himself with us in the unventilated car

Probably a very normal taxi experience to be honest!

Amritsar has been troubled by very poor air (beyond the normal) with loads of Dipavali firecrackers and field stubble burning. Gets in your throat

They may have set some field fires themselves…
Very nice Malta Kulfi (ice cream) in bespoke pot with lid and cloth packaging

This afternoon we went to Gobindgarh Fort, a massive 3-500yr old fort built by a Maharaja, and continued thereafter by Ranjit Singh, once housing the Koh-I-nor diamond. Impressive but simple magic trick show and “7D film” of the local history

Finally after more bone shaking TukTuk rides, had great Indian meal, at Makkah Chicken and Fish restaurant and over-ate+++

Sound and light show in Jallianwala Barg
Gary’s been rewiring again
