Day 20 overnight train to Chennai and on to Mahabalipuram

Took overnight train to Chennai 9pm-6am in the so called “sleeper”

Final trip to “facilities” before bunking down. I had to negotiate trip back, train swaying, high speed and both carriage side doors jammed open. Thus meaning I had to make an “Indiana Jones leap of faith” to the sleeping berth corridor door to grab the door handle, without the advantage of carrying a bull whip!!! Lesson: no more drinks after midday for me from now on

Unfortunately at Mahabalipuram, Gary decided to go for the full India experience so Ying and I wandered around to a somewhat depressing local beach populated by lots of ramshackle or frankly derelict stalls, though we did see two Step Wells during our wandering both past their best! One about the size of a house-plot, the second a football pitch

These were what I presume were abandoned icecream stalls

The other beach a little further north was more picturesque with fishing boats drawn up on the beach as it was blowing quite a breeze and too much to go out in

Note the sea-cows amongst the boats!

Tonight we had a non spicy (!!) butter chicken and calamari and pomfret from todays catch
