China Day 21 Yangshuo

Walked into town this morning then booked a cookery class from 4pm for 3hrs. Just got back at 9:30!!!

Went to food market vegetables first then live fish, caught and killed. There were pigs trotters, ox? tails, etc as well as various cat and dog carcasses hung up. A bit grizzly but not really any different from other foods I suppose

The class was excellent (just 3 of us) including tofu and beer fish (both yummy but fish v bony)

Continued into the evening with a lot of rice wine (tried to avoid too much) and the “chef” cooked several more dishes as his brother and family and two other guests joined. Beef in vege, fish in pickled veg, smoked fish, and winter melon.

It was a very fun evening and much more than just a cookery class

His brother is a teacher/artist and paintings hung up were very good. He told us all about Chinese calligraphy very intensely with more than a little help from the rice wine and home made grape and rice wine!

Rice wine shop 24-60%!

Live catfish, killed to order
Tofu stall
Probably an ox tail?

Part of Chinese culture…
