China Day19 Yangshuo

Lovely and warm already, breakfast on terrace.

Off on an all day multifaceted tour today, try not to fall in the river!

45 minute drive to Xingpeng Ancient Town

Lots of bamboo, banana and other assorted tropical looking greenery, not seen in the north

Lots of sweetcorn being grown, in what appears to be family plots. Looks fertile and green (wet?)

The scene from to 20Yuan note

Roadside graves

Next up bamboo rafting. Pleased to find out we just sat in a rattan chair whilst someone else “punted” us. Most quiet calm and relaxing time of the whole holiday. Several weirs as we went down

Avoiding being soaked as we traversed a weir

Even on the river, cameras!!

Off next to the Ming dynasty Fuli Bridge circa 500yrs old

Fishing Cormorant

On to lunch along the Shili Gallery (a scenic road along which Jimmy Carter cycled) and had lunch of bamboo chicken soup. This comprised an entire (small) chicken chopped up as far as we could tell. Very nice clear broth

Head to toes included

Opposite was a view of Moon Hill

We then ascended up to Xianggong Mountain

Firstly there was a trivial accident with two cars touching on a bend but apparently no one can move til police attend

About a mile after that a big SUV (a Jaecoo 9 I think Gary!) came round a bend at speed, overtaking and could easily have wiped us out but just missed. Our driver was very stressed

Xianggong Mountain is an almost vertical Karst peak so we paid to climb a very steep and seemingly never ending staircase to the top. (Half price over 60, free over 65, should have told us something!)

The view from there added to taking our breath away
